Who is Jake in the Box?

Jake is an emerging Canadian circus and interdisciplinary artist who performs in public spaces, festivals, and events. Raised in Timmins, Ontario, Jake attended school in French and later moved to London, Ontario, in 2014, where he gained exposure to a larger city lifestyle, expanding his horizons and realizing that life doesn’t have to follow a linear path.

Jake began training in circus and performing arts as a teenager, participating in workshops during the Festival Théâtre Action en milieu scolaire, a francophone theatre festival for high school youth. He was drawn to circus skills like juggling, clowning, and acrobatics.

As a young adult, Jake mentored under experienced street performers, specializing in stilt performance, juggling, and clowning, while developing original material for public performances. Since 2020, Jake has been a professional street performer, earning his living mainly from festivals and events across Ontario. He became an ACTRA Apprentice Member in 2022, appearing occasionally in film and television as a circus artist sought after for juggling and stilt performances.

Now performing as Jake in the Box, he is one of the few Toronto street performers under 29. Jake has appeared with INCIRQUE at various busker festivals and has performed in communities across Ontario. He strongly believes in the importance of accessible public performance for everyone, regardless of social or economic circumstances.

On a stage, in a park or part of a bustling  festival, Jake in the Box brings a show adaptable to any environment. Blending  juggling, comedy and engaging crowd work every audience is captivated from the start to the knife juggling finale!
